    Lyme Terminology, Education and Links

bulletCoinfections - other infections transmitted at the time of the tick bite. The terminology is also used rather loosely to include persistent infections co associated with the disease because of depressed immunity
bulletHerx reaction - Wikipedia has an excellent few words to say at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herxheimer_reaction
bulletLyme Disease - an infection spread through the body some 6 months after a tick bite that carried the spirochaete bacteria belonging to the Borrelia genus. The infection then proceeds to cause serious disease.
bulletLyme neurotoxin - this toxin is manufactured by the live bacteria and penetrates Central and peripheral nerve tissue usually causing a loss of function of the nerve but sometimes irritation. Bacterial kill releases an even larger amount resulting in the herx reaction (some other breakdown products also responsible). Here is a Youtube video discussing neurotoxins in Lyme: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8830736111124081690#
