 | Coinfections - other infections transmitted at the
time of the tick bite. The terminology is also used rather loosely to
include persistent infections co associated with the disease because of
depressed immunity |
 | Herx reaction - Wikipedia has an excellent
few words to say at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herxheimer_reaction |
 | Lyme Disease - an infection spread through the
body some 6 months after a tick bite that carried the spirochaete bacteria
belonging to the Borrelia genus. The infection then proceeds to cause
serious disease. |
 | Lyme neurotoxin - this toxin is manufactured by
the live bacteria and penetrates Central and peripheral nerve tissue
usually causing a loss of function of the nerve but sometimes irritation.
Bacterial kill releases an even larger amount resulting in the herx
reaction (some other breakdown products also responsible). Here is a
Youtube video discussing neurotoxins in Lyme: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8830736111124081690# |
